The farms are open from 10am to 4pm. Use the suggested routes described below together with PTBA's cycling maps of Jefferson County - you will need maps labeled Pt. Ludlow, Quilcene and Brinnon - to find your way from farm to farm. The routes are designed to keep you on low-traffic roads to the extent possible. Most of the farms will have water available to keep you hydrated, and some will be offering food for sale.
There are no farms in Port Townsend on this year's Farm Tour, but Mt. Townsend Creamery, just off Sims, is on the tour. If you want to shave a few miles and enjoy only rural roads, consider putting your bike on the Jefferson Transit bus, or driving, as far as Port Hadlock or Chimacum. Chimacum Park and HJ Carroll Park have lots of parking, bathrooms and water.
1. Close-in farms - Port Townsend and Port Ludlow.
Mt. Townsend Creamery is at 338 Sherman, on the water side of Sims, across from QFC.
Be careful on this busy stretch of SR 20 . Sherman will require a left hand turn if you are on your way out of Port Townsend. If you approach on Sheridan, you will need to cross Sims.
If you are riding out of town on SR 20 and 19, your first stop will be at Sunfield Farm at 10903 Rhody Drive in Port Hadlock. It is behind Fiesta Jalisco Restaurant.
2. 25 mile loop starting in Chimacum.
Using the route below and starting in Chimacum, you can visit 4 farms in a 25 mile loop via West Valley, Larsen Lake and Beaver Valley Roads:
From Rhody Drive (Highway 19) head south to the Tri Area at Chimacum. Turn right onto West Valley Road (just before the high school, and just after Chimacum Park and the Tri Area Community Center.) At about 4.5 miles, on your left, will be the Gunning Family Farm.
Back on West Valley Road, in about ½ mile you will find yourself at a T intersection, Eaglemount Road. Turn right and go about ¼ mile to Plum Wild Farm.
Leave Plum Wild Farm the way you came, going about 1/2 mile to Center Road (you will cycle past the T north on Center R). Turn left on Center to head north, then right onto Larsen Lake Road. Follow Larsen Lake Road to Highway 19 (Beaver Valley Road). About 2 miles up, on your left, will be Egg and I Road. Turn left onto Egg and I, and in ¼ mile Bishop Organic Dairy will be on your left.
Leave Bishop Organic Dairy by heading to Highway 19 (Beaver Valley Road). Turn left onto Beaver Valley and head north. On your left just over a mile away you will see Country Meadows Road. Be careful turning left here. Follow Country Meadows, which is relatively flat but with loose gravel. Over the bridge, bear right to Finn River Farm.
For a shorter but more challenging version of this route, after leaving Plum Wild Farm keep riding north on Center past Larsen Lake Road to Egg and I Road. Take a right on Egg and I. Big climb, big downhill, big fun! You will see Bishop Organic Dairy on your right when Egg and I flattens out just before Beaver Valley Road.
3. Overachievers' Loop
Riders wanting a longer ride may loop down to Quilcene to visit Serendipity Farm, a 12 mile round trip from the intersection of Eaglemont and Center. Instead of heading north on Center after visiting Plum Wild Farm, turn south (right turn). At about 6 miles, you will enter Quilcene. Take a sharp right turn on Highway 101 and head north a short distance to Cemetery Road (on the left), where you will find Serendipity Farm at 141 Cemetery Road, the 3rd house on the left. Retrace your route on Center, and take Larsen Lake to visit Bishop Organic Dairy and Finn River Farm.
If that is not long enough for you, add another 30 with a round trip to Overbrook Farm. Continue 13 miles south from Quilcene on 101 past Brinnon to Duckabush River Road. Turn right and follow the signs. The farm is 1.5 miles up the road.
